## What it does

photoexif.com lets users view and edit the metadata embedded inside image files. This includes camera settings recorded at capture, copyright and authorship information, SEO-relevant descriptive fields, and AI provenance fields defined by the IPTC 2024 standard.

Fields written to XMP namespaces (dc, photoshop, xmpRights, xmp): Title, Headline, Description, Keywords, Creator, Credit Line, Source, Copyright, Rights URL, Star Rating.

### AI Provenance & Rights (XMP / IPTC 2024)
Fields written to XMP namespaces (Iptc4xmpExt, plus, xmpRights, xmp): Digital Source Type, AI Training opt-in/out, Creator Tool, Rights Marked, Model Release Status, Property Release Status, Person in Image, Event Name, Location Created, Licensor URL.

Direct EXIF IFD editing across five groups:
- **Image (IFD0):** ImageDescription, Make, Model, Software, DateTime, Artist, Copyright, Orientation, XResolution, YResolution, ResolutionUnit

## Raw view

A read-only panel showing all IFD entries parsed from the file: Image (IFD0), EXIF IFD, GPS IFD, and Thumbnail (IFD1). Includes tag name, type, count, and decoded value. Searchable.

## Technical implementation

- Zero dependencies — no npm packages, no external libraries, no CDN requests beyond fonts
- Pure JavaScript: `DataView` for EXIF binary parsing and writing, `DOMParser` / `XMLSerializer` for XMP
- Container handlers for all four formats: JPEG APP1 segment, TIFF native IFD, WebP RIFF EXIF chunk, PNG eXIf chunk and iTXt XMP chunk
- XMP namespaces: dc, xmp, xmpRights, photoshop, Iptc4xmpExt, Iptc4xmpCore, plus
- Creates EXIF blocks from scratch for images with no existing metadata
- SEO fields (Description, Creator, Copyright) mirror-write to EXIF simultaneously

## Privacy

No data leaves the user's device. No backend, no API, no analytics, no cookies. Single static HTML file served from Cloudflare Pages.
